The quality and feather count on our Blue Eared Pheasant Skins are exceptional!
Each skin can tie many hundreds of flies and are a great value to the serious tyer.
These older birds have longer, fuller feathers on the rump and tail.
The feathers themselves have longer fibers than that of a 1 year old bird.
The overall size of the skin between older and younger birds are about the same, but the quality and quantity of feathers on the older birds are much better.
If you are tired of buying the small packs of feathers, this is a good chance to save some real money in the long run, and get a very wide range and variety of feathers for all of your steelhead, salmon and trout fly needs.
Blue Eared Pheasant:
Blue eared pheasant is considered a great substitute for heron hackles since the color, shape and structure are nearly identical.
The main difference between the two is not obvious until the flies are fished.
Heron hackles are unique in that their barbs are thick and webby so they tend to stay apart when in the water.
Blue eared pheasant, on the other hand, has a tendency for its barbs to stick together.
Even with that significant difference, blue eared pheasant is the logical choice for flies that call for a heron hackle, especially display flies.
Main uses are for salmon and steelhead flies and display flies.
