Local – The Belwood Lake Conservation Area

Facts for Belwood Lake Conservation Area:

Belwood Lake is 12 km long and was established during the construction of the Shand Dam in 1942.
Seasonal, private cottages are within the limits of the Conservation Area.
Day use of the Conservation Area is permitted.
Children 13 years old and under can fish for Rainbow Trout and Smallmouth Bass in a pond.

Boat Access:

The GRCA owns 1,348 hectares (3,330 acres) which includes the 758 hectare(1,874 acre) lake on which power boats are permitted.Two boat launches are available within the Conservation Area limits and boat rental is available in season at the Park Office. A boat launch is also located in the village of Belwood. The Conservation Area is open year round.

Ice Fishing:

When ice conditions are good, the fishing can be excellent for perch and northern pike. Belwood Lake also has ice fishing in winter when conditions allow and fishing for perch and northern pike can be excellent. Check the Newsroom during winter for the winter activities update.

Fish Species:

Pike, Smallmouth Bass, Yellow Perch, Walleye, Bullhead, Carp, are some of the species found in the Conservation Area.

Brown Trout, Smallmouth Bass, Pike and Walleye are found downstream of the Shand Dam.

Quick Tips while on Belwood Lake Conservation Area:

Spinnerbaits and jerkbaits are effective for pike when fished near submerged willow shrubs around the perimeter of the lake. Trolling with spoons, spinners and crankbaits produces fish when water levels drop along the shoreline.
Diving crankbaits and salted tube jigs fished over lakebed points and humps are successful in producing catches of Smallmouth Bass. The old riverbed provides excellent structure for holding bass.
