THE AIRFLO SKAGIT SCOUT HEAD HAS ARRIVED!

The Airflo Skagit Scout head is here and ready to party! The new Skagit Scout is a short-format Skagit head designed to line up flawlessly on single-hand and switch rods. Aggressive enough to turn over dense sink tips, the Scout allows the caster to toss and swing flies off of rods as short as 9 feet. No backcast room? No problem. They feature just enough front end to keep from “dumping”, and a Wasabi Green colorway to help the caster track their drift.

The Airflo Skagit Scout grain weight recommendations are often lower than what one would expect because it’s assumed that the caster will blow their anchor and pull a portion of the sink tip out of the water. If the caster is some sort of spey Jedi…maybe not, but the majority of customers won’t have the skill to keep their anchor pinned on every cast. The portion of the sink tip above the water line must now be added to the head weight to determine the total mass that is loading the rod. If the caster pulls 3 feet of T-10 out of the water, they’ve effectively added 30 grains (a full size!) to the head’s mass. Just a heads up when recommending the Scout to customers.

The Airflo Skagit Scout comes in a multitude of sizes for rods as small as 9’0″ #5 up to anadromous-sized switch rods. These heads are not recommended for full-sized spey rods – they’re just too short to line-up well. The two-hand line recommendation chart will be updated on AirfloUSA.com to reflect our suggestions.

Now, even the 9’0 #5 “one rod” folks can get into the swinging game without having to buy a whole new set-up. Likewise, switch rodders have a new way to catch fish with non-existent backcast room with the the Airflo Skagit Scout.
