There are many styles of “Euro Nymphing”in use these days;
From Polish, to French, to Czech and Spanish, and the majority of these styles require specialized gear to fish correctly.
Here we take a look at the core components:
Successful European nymphing utilizes less of a traditional cast, and more of a “flip”.
Fishing this way requires an almost vertical fly line fished off the top of a rod and flies drifted along at the speed of the current.
Grabs are very subtle and an ultra-thin fly line is needed for maximum control and for detecting these incredibly light eats.
Regular trout leaders are nowhere near sensitive enough for Euro nymphing techniques as they are generally way too thick.
In addition, the clear nylon that trout leaders are made of make it very hard to see – a hugely important part of this style of fishing.
RIO’s Euro nymph leaders are thin tapered leader for sensitivity, and made of a white material that is very easy to track.
Seeing the grab is one of the hardest skills to master when fishing “Euro Nymph” style.
Regular indicators are not used as they are not sensitive enough, so the go-to choice for most anglers is a two toned coloured tippet with stark contrasting colours.
